We have been waiting for it for three years now. Halo Infinite arrives this winter, and one can only get impatient with the idea of discovering the continuation of the adventures of Master Chief. In the meantime, 343 Industries has planned to organize two test sessions for its multiplayer at the end of September.

[Mise à jour le 21 septembre 2021 à 12h20] First announced in 2018, Halo Infinite had given very little news for the past three years, aside from a small gameplay trailer last year. Good news for fans of the legendary franchise, we learned a little more about the sixth volume of the saga during the Xbox E3 2021 conference with not one but two trailers. Halo Infinite will be released this winter and promises to be the most ambitious title in the futuristic FPS series. A high-flying campaign and explosive multiplayer, the combination so essential to the best Halos seems right in place, all exclusively on Xbox and PC consoles.

The Halo Infinite test phases are organized in different periods called “flight-test”. These weekends / weeks are test phases open to certain randomly selected Halo Insider members, and may vary in length or content. Recently 343 Industries announced the dates of the next two “flight-tests”. The first will take place from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 September next. It will be a test focused on the “Arena” mode, where teams of 4 players will compete in matches without mercy. The second will take place the following week, from Thursday September 30 to Sunday October 3, and will be subject to the test of “Big Team Battle” mode (12v12) and “Arena” mode. 343 Industries has said it wants to open these weekends to as many players as possible. In order to test the capacities of its servers, the studio has decided to open matchmaking for only 4 hours each day, to 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. French time.

How to get there?

Technically, these test phases are open to all players, provided they are members ofHalo Insider since at least September 13. If you want to access the next tests, you can easily and free to join this partnership program between players and developers by going through this page. Once registered and your email validated, register for the “flights” and you will have a chance to be selected for one of the next test phases. Watch your mailbox carefully. 343 Industries has stated that it wants to open these tests to as many players as possible, while maintaining a diversity of the platforms concerned (Xbox Series X | S and different types of PC) and by favoring the oldest members of the Insider program.

The release of Halo Infinite will also be an opportunity for Xbox to celebrate Halo’s 20th anniversary. This franchise has marked the spirits for nearly two decades, showering fans with its epic storylines and breathtaking gameplay. For this occasion, Xbox has formalized the release of a limited edition Xbox Series X, and a matching controller. It will still be necessary to pay the sum of 729,99 euros to pre-order this little nugget, already available for pre-order at Micromania.

While Microsoft had promised news of its most anticipated titles at Gamescom, many gamers were disappointed not to find a Halo Infinite gameplay presentation in the Xbox conference. Recently, 343 Industries explained itself in a blog post, written by Joseph Staten, its creative director. He explains that the development of Halo Infinite is at a critical moment, close to the announced release, and that it was not possible to allocate more work resources to a technical demonstration: “gameplay demos and trailers not only take an incredible amount of work to be done right, but also resources to fix bugs and other final tasks. ” We will have to wait a little longer to see what this Halo Infinite campaign has in store for us.

Halo Infinite finally has an exact release date. It was during Gamescom Opening Night that the fateful date of the December 8, 2021 has been revealed, confirming 343 Industries’ desire to release its game during the holiday season. This release, which will be done directly on Xbox Game Pass, among other things, will include the single-player and multiplayer campaign (entirely free-to-play). For the co-op campaign you will have to wait three more months, and for the Forge mode six months. We have known for twenty years now that Halo and Xbox is a great love story, which is why the game will remain an Xbox and PC exclusive. The game, while optimized for 4K 60fps gameplay on Xbox Series X | S, will also be releasing on Xbox One, news that will be a hit with last-gen console owners. We invite you to the 2021 holidays, the opportunity to celebrate the twenty years of Master Chief.

On the technical side, 343 Industries has chosen to organize its multiplayer mode in seasons, like a Warzone or an Apex Legends. Moreover, at Gamescom 2021, we also had the right to a CGI trailer for the first season of Halo Infinite multiplayer. A breathtaking cinematic showing us the Spartans in action. This announcement, alongside an official release date, has had enough to excite fans, who are impatient to be able to get their hands on this multiplayer mode which will be entirely free-to-play.

In order not to reveal too many essential points of the Halo Infinite campaign, 343 Indutries has decided to communicate in more detail on its multiplayer mode. And we must remember that Halo’s multiplayer mode is a benchmark in terms of first-person shooter. First good news, it will be entirely free and this as soon as the main game is released. The opportunity for many new players to discover a game mode that is often defined as one of the benchmarks of shooting games. In addition, 343 Industries also made the choice to make Halo Infinite crossplateform, allowing PC and console gamers to play together. In addition, in order to facilitate access to the game, the American studio has created the Academy, a sort of virtual camp accessible in multiplayer where players can test new equipment and train before embarking on real games. . A big emphasis has been placed on personalization. Whether at the level of vehicle skins, where the appearance of your Spartan, a battle pass will unlock exclusively cosmetic content, all essentially while playing (the shop will have its own content). The multiplayer of Halo Infinite will be for many the opportunity to discover the universe of Halo, its vehicles, its weapons and its very special atmosphere.

The other important news of this end of August is the explanation by Jon Junyszek, Community Manager at 343 Industries, of how progression in the multiplayer mode works. This progression will be quite special, since it will be based on a system of challenges, daily and weekly, that players will have to complete in order to progress in the Battle Pass. If we quote Junyszek: “Playing and winning matches will be part of the challenges, which will help players progress through the Battle Pass. Even if this implies that there will be no XP per match at launch, you will still be able to progress in the challenges, and therefore in the Battle Pass.“These challenges will be numerous and sometimes hard to complete, he then explains.” An original system which can be modified according to the feedback from the players.

On this thorny subject, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that 343 Industries has confirmed that Halo Infinite will understand a co-op campaign. The bad news is that this campaign will be missing from the game when it launches. Indeed, in order to respect its release schedule, the American firm had to postpone the addition of the coop campaign and Forge mode to a later date. For the co-op campaign, we’re talking about three months after December 8 and six months for Forge mode. Releases delayed by a few months, which will not prevent the single-player campaign and the multiplayer (completely free-to-play, we remind you) from both being present at the release of the game, at the end of 2O21.

Joseph Staten, Creative Director at 343 Industries, says so himself in the presentation. Halo Infinite will take place on the largest open world the studio has ever created: the Halo Ring. This mega-structure will be the scene of the adventures of Spartan 177, Master Chief who will once again have to push his limits in order to protect Humanity from an enemy more powerful than ever. Halo Infinite will be a kind of open-world RPG, mixing story, exploration and combat phases, a novelty in the 343 Industries franchise. As for the story of Halo Infinite, it takes place after the events of Halo 5, on Installation 07, one of the Halo circles. Master Chief will have to face a group of mercenaries commanded by Brutes. Not much is known about the campaign yet, other than that it will be the most ambitious of all Halo games.
