From head of Israel’s liaison office to Morocco, David Govrin officially became his country’s ambassador to Rabat. An appointment that the Israeli diplomat announced personally in a tweet published on Sunday, October 10, 2021. “I have the honor to share with my supporters and friends around the world the news of my official appointment as Israel’s Ambassador to the Morocco, ”Mr. Govrin wrote. The Israeli diplomat added: “On this occasion, I thank all our partners in Morocco and abroad for their efforts to establish peace.
We will continue our work to develop joint relations for the benefit of the two brotherly countries ”. In January 2021, Israel appointed David Govrin, the former ambassador to Cairo, as its diplomatic representative in Morocco. And last August, Israel inaugurated a diplomatic liaison office in Rabat.
On December 10, Israel and Morocco announced the resumption of diplomatic relations between them, broken in 2000 by Rabat after the violent response of the Israeli authorities to the second Palestinian intifada and the suspension of peace talks with the Palestinians.
This appointment promises to be a new step in diplomatic relations between Morocco and the Hebrew state. Several partnership agreements were indeed sealed between the two countries after the resumption of relations. Tourism, new technologies, services, finance and trade are the most strategic areas in which Moroccan-Israeli relations are called upon to be developed with the support of the United States, which continues to eye the Moroccan market.
