The Moroccan researcher in geology Hasnaa Chennaoui, professor at the Hassan II University of Casablanca, Aïn Chock Faculty of Sciences and president of the Attarik Foundation for meteorite and planetological sciences, received Sunday in Orvieto in Italy the “Hypatia International Award ”. This distinction was awarded to Ms. Chennaoui in recognition of her scientific work developed in Morocco for more than twenty years for the promotion of scientific research, the preservation and the enhancement of the geological heritage, in particular that in meteorites. The prize was presented to Professor Hasnaa Chennaoui by the Moroccan ambassador to the Vatican, Rajae Naji Mekkaoui, said the Attarik Foundation for Meteorite Sciences and Planetology in a press release. This first edition of the “International Hypatia Award” honored ten eminent personalities from four continents, selected by an international committee on very rigorous criteria. This prize aims in particular to celebrate women or men whose commitment in their fields of research, arts and crafts, have contributed to the advancement of scientific knowledge and the improvement of life.
