Massive disinformation is at the center of the intervention of HACA President Latifa Akharbach at the international seminar of the Francophone Network of Media Regulators held recently in Tunis.
As she specifies, this “phenomenon of disinformation has, in the context of communication 2.0, taken on new proportions and now involves new actors”. And that’s not all ! For the Moroccan official, “the contexts of crisis are certainly conducive to disinformation – the frantic circulation of fake news during the Covid pandemic is a perfect illustration of this – but it is clear that we are witnessing a trivialization of the practices of disinformation”.
Worse still, disinformation weakens, according to the speaker, “democracy by disqualifying elites, institutions, public space, etc., through rumors and lies and without offering any alternative”. Also, conspiracy weakens, in his view, democracies also by aiming to “discredit the media as a counter-power”.
