A fire that completely devastated the building of the Usinage Xpress company in Saint-Benoît-Labre, in Beauce, required the assistance of firefighters from five municipalities on Thursday morning.
The fire department of the municipality located southwest of Saint-Georges was called to the scene around 4:15 am. It was a worker who saw smoke spreading in the company’s paint chamber, which is on the main street, who contacted the authorities.
“He ran to get some water and there he saw a big orange ball followed by an explosion. We told him to get out of there quickly, ”explains the chief of the fire department of Saint-Benoît-Labre, Michel Boucher.
The fire quickly spread throughout the building, much of which is made of only wood.
In total, a little more than thirty sappers got involved. The municipalities of Saint-Georges, Saint-Honoré, Saint-Éphrem and Saint-Victor took part in the intervention.
“Fortunately, there are no injuries. But the building is a total loss. We will have to throw everything on the ground, ”says Boucher.
The situation was declared under control around 8:15 am Thursday morning.
