The 15thth anniversary of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Morocco and the United States was symbolically celebrated, Tuesday, November 16, in a conditioning and packaging unit of citrus fruits in Berkane, which is preparing to send to USA its first shipment of clementines and oranges of the season. Indeed, 45,000 tons of citrus fruits are exported by Morocco to the United States each year under the FTA.

The Chargé d’affaires at the United States Embassy in Morocco, David Greene, who visited this factory, noted that Morocco is to date the only country in Africa to have concluded an FTA with the United States. United, adding that since the signing of this agreement, the volume of trade between the two countries has multiplied by five, to reach 5 billion dollars.

According to Karim Kantari, head of the exporting group, the FTA has contributed greatly to the increase in Moroccan citrus exports to the United States, which did not exceed 4,000 t in 2006.
