Coronavirus: more than 16,700 new contaminations per day (infographic)

Between November 19 and 25, there were an average of 303.6 hospital admissions per day due to coronavirus, an increase of 22% from the previous reporting period.

Au total, 3,462 people are still hospitalized due to covid-19, including 669 patients treated in intensive care, according to figures from the Institute of Public Health Sciensano updated on Friday morning.

Between November 16 and 22, 16,762 new Sars-CoV-2 infections were detected on average per day, up 48% from the previous week. Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, more than 1.7 million cases of coronavirus infection have been diagnosed.

Over the period studied, an average of 35.7 people died per day as a result of the virus (+ 16%), bringing the toll to 26,800 deaths since the start of the health crisis in Belgium.

Almost 110,100 tests on average were also performed daily, for a positivity rate of 15.9%.

The virus’s reproduction rate is 1.12. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic is tending to accelerate. The incidence, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 1,704 over 14 days.
