The expanded Covid Safe Ticket comes into force tomorrow in Brussels: what about Wallonia?

The expanded Covid Safe Ticket comes into force on October 15 in Brussels. In Wallonia, on the other hand, its introduction is not foreseen immediately. There are still a few steps to take and some discussions before it can be implemented. We will probably have to wait until the end of October.

Before the Covid Safe Ticket is introduced in Wallonia, there are still a few steps to be taken. Discussions are scheduled for Thursday within the government. Then, the text will have to be voted on in the Parliament of Wallonia, probably next week. The time will then come to bring the mechanism into force.

The Walloon government has received in recent days the two reports it was waiting for: the observations of the Council of State and the analysis of the Data Protection Authority. In this opinion concerning the preliminary draft decree relating to the use of the Covid Safe Ticket (CST) in Wallonia, the Data Protection Authority (APD) is surprised that the legislator wishes to impose the health pass on the the whole of French-speaking Belgium, and not only at the level of the province of Liège, report Sudpresse titles.

The opinion is not binding, so the Walloon government is not forced to follow it. But he will debate it this Thursday morning, in the Council of Ministers, without taboos, we are told.

The extension of the use of the CST was decided because of the health situation and the low vaccination rate of the population, but also to maintain or relaunch activities in a series of sectors despite this. In Brussels, it will therefore come into force on October 15.

The extension of the use of the CST was decided because of the health situation in the capital and the low vaccination rate of the population, but also to maintain or relaunch activities in a series of sectors despite this.

From the age of 16, the CST will be required in:

  • catering (except outside)
  • dance halls and nightclubs
  • sports and fitness clubs (outside of school)
  • trade fairs and congresses
  • structures belonging to the cultural, festive and recreational sector
  • institutions for vulnerable people

From 12 years old, the CST will be requested in:

  • mass events (except demonstrations)
  • hospitals and nursing homes

This draft order was carried by the Minister in charge of Health Alain Maron (Ecolo), according to whom “the CST will only be used when it is strictly necessary”.

You will find all the details in this article.
