Hebrew state has seen an increase in daily cases of contamination for several days

The coordinator of the fight against the coronavirus, Professor Salman Zarka, claimed on Wednesday evening that the fifth wave of infections in Israel has already started.

“We are no longer in between waves. We are at the start of a wave,” S. Zarka told public broadcaster Kan.

“When we thought of a fifth wave, we didn’t think of this increase, we thought of a new variant coming from abroad, to what is happening in Europe now. This increase in the coefficient of infection is too fast and too early, I don’t want to call it a fifth wave or just a wave, I want the population to succeed in extinguishing it and for us to return to descending figures, “he added.

Earlier on Wednesday, Health Ministry official Ilana Gans alerted authorities to the rise in the number of new daily cases at a meeting of the Constitution, Law and Justice Committee. of the Knesset.

“Last week we once observed an increase in the daily number of coronavirus cases and the coefficient of infection,” she said. “There is a real rise in infections, and it is not small numbers.”

Ilana Gans added that the coefficient of infection rose to 1.08 on Wednesday morning, and that most of the new cases are children who, until this week, have not been able to receive the anti-Covid vaccine.

“The critical mass is made up of children who are not vaccinated, most of them between the ages of 6 and 11,” she said.

She further attributed the rise in cases “to the unvaccinated population and not to the onset of declining immunity.”
