RDS and RDS Direct present Tuesday the 1st duel of the World Series between the Braves and the Astros. That’s 5 to 1 Braves.
The best teams in the American and National Leagues in the regular season, after 162 games, were the Tampa Bay Rays and the San Francisco Giants.
A few weeks later, we find ourselves with a World Series that promises to be exciting, but which instead pits the Houston Astros against the Atlanta Braves, two teams that we expected more or less.
Jorge Soler set the tone for the World Series. Employed as the Braves’ first hitter, Soler silenced the Minute Maid Park crowd with a home run at Framber Valdez’s expense to start hostilities.
Moments later, Austin Riley knocked his teammate Ozzie Albies home with a double to bring the score to 2-0 Atlanta.
The Astros tried to strike back in their first round at bat. Charlie Morton ended up with goals filled and two strikeouts with Kyle Tucker in front of him. Albies recovered a well-placed ground from Tucker, but he made it to first base in time for the third out to prevent the Astros from scoring a point.
In his second at-bat of the game, Soler produced the Braves’ third point with a ground that allowed Travis d’Arnaud to cross the plate. Valdez was his turn in hot water moments later with the goals filled. This time, he ended the threat by removing Riley on momentum.
The Braves roughed up the Astros starter once again in the next set. After a visit to the mound as Eddie Rosario hit the opening goal, Valdez dropped a throw to Adam Duvall’s liking that sent him to the left stands. That two-run homer was the end of Valdez for this game with five runs and eight hits to his record with just six strikeouts recorded.
Morton was seen in the dugout during this round at bat as if his working day was over as he had his coat over his shoulders. He returned to the mound, but after striking Jose Altuve at bat he motioned for the healer to replace him as he looked bored on his right leg. He had been shot earlier in the game and examinations revealed a fracture.
His workday therefore ended after two and a third innings, one hit and two walks allowed. AJ Minter gave the Astros a first run in the fourth inning with a Chas McCormick ground ball that sent Kyle Tucker home.
In the case of the Braves, this is the first participation in the ultimate showdown in more than two decades, since 1999.
The Astros have become regulars at this meeting, as they are making their third appearance in the World Series in the space of five years.
