Apple has never hidden the health orientation of its products. There are many applications available for the iPhone as the Apple Watch may one day have a blood glucose meter and the watch has been used to detect COVID-19. But Biogen wants to go even further with a study to … detect symptoms of depression, dementia and other neurological diseases. The company’s study got underway after it was announced in January 2021. According to the Wall Street Journal, Biogen is conducting its experiments under the code name Pi while Apple participates with ULCA using Seabreeze.
No details about the study were revealed but it would appear that the data studied include mobility, physical activity, sleep habits or keyboard typing behavior. Apple’s Jeff Williams spoke about the experience, explaining that it can “ help the medical community better understand a person’s cognitive performance by simply having them use their Apple Watch or iPhone (…) We are eager to discover the impact of our technology for better health outcomes through better detection of cognitive health decline ».
