Xiaomi in a few years has managed the performance of shaking up the leaders of the smartphone market and making a place for itself in the sun. Five years after its debut on the old continent, Xiaomi is today the leading supplier of 5G smartphones in Europe.
Arrived in France in 2018 with the opening of a first store on the most famous Parisian avenue, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is shaking up the market by offering quality smartphones at extremely competitive prices. In addition to a good quality / price ratio, the consumer benefits from a large choice of products whose ranges are very regularly updated. It is therefore not surprising that it is now taking the first place on the podium, according to a study conducted by Strategy analytics, a research company specializing in analysis.
Xiaomi floods Europe with its products
To be precise, this first place of Xiaomi does not concern the number of sales in Europe, but the number of smartphones shipped to Europe. And the figures put forward by the appraisal company are final. Xiaomi accounted for just under 42% of total 5G smartphone shipments in Central and Eastern Europe in the third quarter of 2021. That is almost 16% more than Apple and around 30% more than Samsung which are respectively relayed to the 2de and 3rd place. While Realme and Oneplus get 4th and 5th place with 7.2% and 2.5% of shipments over the same period.
Xiaomi very present in 5G for 3 years
This first place can in part be explained by the fact that Xiaomi was one of the first manufacturers to launch the production of smartphones compatible with the new network. Samsung launched its Galaxy S10 5G in April 2019, followed closely by the officialization of the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5G a few days later.
We can notice the absence of Huawei on this ranking. A disappearance which is explained by the American sanctions against the firm, accused of espionage at the end of 2019. This conflict puts an end to commercial contracts including the supply of micro processors, essential for the production of Korean smartphones. A providential absence that benefits the Chinese company.
According to Yiwen Wu, senior analyst at the expertise company, Xiaomi should maintain its supremacy in this sector in Europe throughout the year 2022: ” Xiaomi is expected to maintain its lead in the Central and Eastern European region for the whole of 2021 and remain the leader in 5G smartphone shipments in 2022. Xiaomi capitalizes on the absence of Huawei, as well as on its own high quality affordable 5G smartphone portfolio such as Redmi Note 9T 5G and Mi 11 5G. »
