The body was discovered a few weeks ago, this spokesperson told AFP, adding that DNA analyzes had allowed the identification of the victim.

The latter, carried by the sudden flood of the Ahr river, was probably carried by the waves of the Rhine, of which the Ahr is one of the tributaries, to the mouth of the river, in Rotterdam.

Floods in the German regions of Rhineland-Palatinate and North Rhine-Westphalia have left 182 people dead. Two people remain missing.

Three months after the disaster, reconstruction is underway in the devastated municipalities but many residents who have lost everything have not found a permanent home.

An investigation for manslaughter is underway due to suspicions of negligence targeting some local officials who have not taken the necessary warning and precautionary measures upstream of heavy rainfall.
