The Senegalese national navy seized 2,026 kg of pure cocaine following the interception of a ship off Dakar, announced Tuesday the public relations department of the armed forces (Dirpa).

The operation which allowed the interception of the ship “involved in international drug trafficking” took place on October 17, 196 nautical miles (363 km) from Dakar, according to the source.

“The first excavations made it possible to discover pure cocaine on board for an estimated weight of 2026 kg”, indicated the direction of public relations of the armies (Dirpa) in a press release read by the Anadolu Agency.

“The ship, the cargo and the crew have been made available to the competent administrations for further investigations,” explained the Dirpa, refraining from providing more details on the nationality of the five members of the ship’s crew. referred to as La Rosa.

Seizures of cocaine, in varying quantities, by units of the national navy and customs, have been frequent in recent years in Senegal.

However, this seizure is the largest made after the record 2.4 tonnes in 2007.
